Ox hair brushes

Ox hair is a strong, resilient bristle which makes a good, economical face painting brush. Grimas ox hair brushes are flat with a straight top. The brushes have a red handle and the number indicates the approximate width in mm. You can cut the tip of the smaller brushes (R2 and R4) at an angle to make a finer tip.

The most popular size for beginners is R4. Larger sizes need practice to handle with confidence, but they do the job quicker.

Artificial mongoose hair brushes

Grimas artificial mongoose hair brushes are more pliable than oxhair and longer lasting. They hold their shape very well.

Artificial mongoose is similar to sable, but cheaper. This means you can buy yourself a big, sable-like brush wide without the price of a big, real sable brush.

Artificial hair brushes

Grimas Artificial-hair Brushes are suitable for applying all types of face paints and stage makeup. Various shapes are available: round (S2), straight top (S6), filbert (SL6) and rounded top (SV6). They have a grey stem and the number indicates the width in mm.

Artificial-hair Brushes are suitable for fine lines and face-painting. The hairs may become discoloured over the course of time, but this has no effect on the makeup results.

Sable brushes

Sable brushes are the best you can get. Sable hair is springy and resilient and, properly cared for, will last for years improving as it ages.

Code M brushes are chisel shaped

Code MR brushes are round and come to a fine point

Code V brushes are filberts (rounded ends)

Code L brushes are flat, triangular lip brushes

Powder and rouge brushes

Grimas pony hair brushes are used for applying powder and blusher in beauty and stage makeup. There are various sizes; the smaller sizes (P4, P6 and P8) are particularly good for highlighting and shadowing with Eyeshadow/Rouge and the larger sizes (P10 and P20) are recommended for larger areas using pressed and loose powders.
